Writing in the Burlington Times-News on March 17, Marv McWherter of Mebane, a 21-year career veteran Naval officer, tells why it is time for our troops to come home. Read what he has to say here.
We are making excellent progress toward the Community Forum scheduled for April 21. At our planning meeting last night, the Program Committee announced that we have a venue for the Community Forum--it will be held at the Church of the Holy Comforter at 320 E. Davis Street in Burlington. The Program Committee is lining up an excellent slate of local speakers who will talk about the impact of budget cuts on hunger, homelessness, unemployment, public transportation, and education.
Letters inviting elected officials and candidates for office to the Community Forum will go out in the next few days. The letters carry the signatures of nearly forty co-sponsors of our Alamance County Campaign to Bring the War Dollars Home and Fund our Communities. Our next planning meeting will be held at May Memorial Library in Burlington at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 2. All are welcome to join us and help Bring the War Dollars Home. Our Feb, 27 planning meeting at May Memorial Library in Burlington was a success! Participants voted to adopt the draft Resolution. Seventeen people signed the letter to potential Co-Sponsors, and those letters should be going out this week. We discussed possible speakers for the Community Forum on April 21, as well as possible venues for the forum. Our next planning meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday March 19, at May Memorial Library in Burlington. Please plan to attend and contribute to this effort to Bring the War Dollars Home and Fund Our Communities.
