From Julie Budd:
Our follow-up presentationon June 19 at the city council meeting went well. Thank you to those who came! It was impressive to be able to say, "and these people are all here for the same reason." I recapped our points to the council and then asked them where they stood on the resolution. Steve Ross asked which cities had passed resolutions. I told him Durham was the one I knew of. Then David Huffman asked if he could change the resolution and I told him yes. They said they would revisit the wording and make their changes so they could look toward passing it next meeting.
Anne got a call from the city clerk about getting a copy of the resolution that passed in Durham and the one we had emailed and handed out earlier. We will plan to be at the next city council meeting. Anne is confirming the date of when that will be.
Thanks!
Julie Budd
And from Phil Young:
At Tuesday's City Council meeting, Julie gave another fine
presentation, and David Huffman followed up on the Resolution, stating that
his only objection was reference to War explicitly. Other than this
political concern, he told everyone that he would vote for the Resolution
that night. Other Council members concurred, with Ronnie Wall asking how
they can move the Resolution forward, and it appears that they will adopt it
by the next Council meeting. After the meeting we talked with several
Council members, who were positive on the subject, and also said that they
were impressed with our group's show of support at this meeting.
